Academic Profile

Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam Chowdhury is a distinguished academician, visionary edupreneur, and one of the most respected figures in the technical and higher education landscape of Bangladesh. As the Founder and Chairman of the CCN Education Family and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at CCN University of Science & Technology (CCN-UST), he has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to advancing quality education, skill development, and institutional excellence in the country. Currently serving as a Professor in the Department of Business Administration at CCN-UST, Dr. Chowdhury’s influence spans across teaching, administration, curriculum development, and policy advocacy. His journey began in 1997 with the establishment of CCN as a computer training institute in Cumilla, during a time when access to computer literacy was limited outside major cities. With an unwavering commitment to digital empowerment, he authored over 35 books on computer education in Bangla, many of which have been approved by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB), making him a pioneer in Bangladesh's computer education movement. Over the years, he expanded the CCN vision to include polytechnic institutes, colleges, and ultimately a private university approved by the University Grants Commission. Under his leadership, the CCN Family now comprises 8 institutions working in education, training, and agro-industries, directly and indirectly employing over 500 individuals and educating more than 3,000 students. Dr. Chowdhury holds a Ph.D. in Education Management from Binary University of Management & Entrepreneurship in Malaysia, where his doctoral research focused on the quality of higher education through effective teaching practices in private universities. He also holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from Presidency University and a Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies from the University of Dhaka. His academic expertise, combined with his entrepreneurial spirit, has enabled him to develop robust academic programs that bridge theoretical knowledge with practical skill sets. Beyond his institutional contributions, Dr. Chowdhury has presented research papers at international conferences and published scholarly articles in leading peer-reviewed journals on topics such as tertiary education leadership, teaching pedagogy, post-pandemic education strategies, educational management, and women's empowerment through microcredit. His global engagements include participating in leadership and accreditation training under the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) and the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC) in the Philippines and Nepal. He has also coordinated nationwide training initiatives for government officers and educators across Bangladesh, contributing significantly to professional development in both rural and urban areas. Dr. Chowdhury is actively involved in educational associations at national and international levels. He serves as a member of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), Jammu and Kashmir Economic Association and technical committees under the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Ministry of Education. He has also held roles such as Founder Secretary of the Association for Computer Training and Educational Institute of Bangladesh (ACTEIB), Joint Secretary of the Bangladesh Computer Writers' Association (BCWA), and Advisor to the Bangladesh Private Polytechnic Entrepreneurs Association (BPPEA). He is also working as an External Advisor of Binary University of Management and Entrepreneurship, Malaysia. His lifelong dedication to educational advancement is matched by his commitment to social responsibility. Through the Alhaz Nurul Islam Chowdhury Shiksha Foundation, named after his late father, Dr. Chowdhury provides scholarships and support to underprivileged yet meritorious students, ensuring access to education for all, regardless of socioeconomic background. To this end, he is working tirelessly to build an international-standard research and education complex rooted in local values but aligned with global best practices. With a focus on quality, innovation, and service to society, Dr. Chowdhury continues to inspire educators, students, and leaders across Bangladesh and beyond.

Standard Profile

Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam Chowdhury is a visionary leader and one of the pioneering figures in the education and ICT sectors of Bangladesh. As the Founder and Chairman of the CCN Education Family and CCN University of Science & Technology, Dr. Chowdhury has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of digital literacy, technical education, and rural entrepreneurship. His journey began in 1997, when he established CCN as a computer training institute in Cumilla—a bold initiative at a time when computer education was largely inaccessible in regional areas of Bangladesh. Recognized as one of the first Bangladeshi authors to write computer books in Bangla, he authored more than 35 titles that empowered students across the country and contributed to the localization of digital education. By 2001, he transformed CCN into a full-fledged polytechnic institute, setting the foundation for a group that now includes a university, colleges, vocational centers, training projects, and an agro-enterprise—collectively known as the CCN Family.

Dr. Chowdhury’s leadership has guided the CCN Family to grow into a diversified network of 13 organizations across education, training, and agriculture, employing over 500 people and serving thousands of students. Under his direction, CCN has initiated several impactful projects, including UGC-approved higher education institutions and SEIP-led technical training programs. He has also built permanent campuses for multiple institutions, all located in Kotbari, Cumilla, which he envisions transforming into the “Oxford of Bangladesh.” In addition to his entrepreneurial accomplishments, Dr. Chowdhury founded the Alhaz Nurul Islam Chowdhury Shiksha Foundation to provide scholarships and educational support to underprivileged students, further demonstrating his commitment to social equity.

Born in 1968 in Cumilla, Dr. Chowdhury earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Dhaka, his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resource Management from Presidency University, and his Ph.D. in Education Management from Binary University of Management & Entrepreneurship, Malaysia. From the early 1990s, he transitioned from private service and a government ICT project into full-time entrepreneurship, making an early mark with ICT-based education and training solutions. His dedication to institutional development led him to serve in various national and international roles including memberships in the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP), Jammu and Kashmir Economic Association, Bangladesh Private Polytechnic Entrepreneurs Association (BPPEA), Bangladesh Computer Writers’ Association (BCWA), and the Informal Computer Education Committee under the Ministry of Education. He was also a committee member for curriculum development with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and European Union (EU) for the TVET reform project. He is also working as an External Advisor of Binary University of Management and Entrepreneurship, Malaysia.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chowdhury has consistently advocated for practical, job-oriented education. His leadership in ICT education has made a notable impact on Bangladesh’s rural and technical education infrastructure. His research contributions in the areas of higher education quality, educational management, leadership, and post-pandemic academic tools have been published in reputed international journals and presented at global academic forums. His articles emphasize innovation in academic delivery and leadership transformation in private universities, resonating with global education stakeholders.

Dr. Chowdhury’s influence also extends beyond academia and entrepreneurship. He has coordinated national training programs for thousands of teachers and ministry officials and has trained personnel from institutions such as the Bangladesh Survey Institute, Graphic Arts Institute, and Cumilla Polytechnic Institute. His leadership in these initiatives reflects his deep-rooted belief in capacity-building as a tool for national development.

Dr. Chowdhury’s contributions have earned him widespread respect in both business and educational circles. His strategic vision has empowered youth with skills, created employment opportunities, and inspired innovation at the grassroots level. Beyond professional excellence, his philanthropic efforts through the CCN Foundation have impacted countless lives. With a lifelong commitment to community-based development, academic excellence, and technological advancement, Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam Chowdhury stands as a powerful symbol of entrepreneurial success and educational transformation in Bangladesh.
